JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Intel Corp has bought Israel-based artificial intelligence (AI) firm Habana Labs for about $2 billion, the chipmaker said on Monday, seeking to expand its AI portfolio to bolster its data-center business.

Alibaba has announced the launch of quantum computing for its cloud customers. The company is hosting an 11-qubit quantum computer, the second fastest cloud-hosted quantum machine available.

Quantum computing as a cloud service is new—only IBM, in partnership with Intel, offers this type of product. Whether it will be successful, practical, or lead to greater quantum computing innovation remains to be seen.

Auch Intel arbeitet an Quantencomputern: Ein neuer Testchip weist 17 Qubits auf und ist an Qutech geschickt worden. Wichtig bei diesem Schritt ist das spezielle Package samt den Anschlüssen, weniger die Leistung des supraleitenden Prozessors.

Intel hat einen Testchip mit 17 Qubits für Quanten-Computing versendet, dieser ist mittlerweile bei Qutech angekommen. Gemeinsam wollen Intel und das niederländische Institut weiter daran forschen, wie es gelingen kann, einen Quantencomputer zu bauen, und welche Materialien sowie Herstellungsverfahren dafür notwendig sind.

This sure is a terrific little drone. While still in the development stage, I hope it becomes a commercial success. You wear and went you want to take a drone photo. Take it off, throw it out there, it flies off, takes the photo and comes back to you. Or you can have the Nixie drone follow you around and take some photo snaps. Terrific.

Apple has agreed to acquire Intel's 5G modem business in a deal which highlights the iPad and iPhone maker's desire to control more of its supply chain.

On Thursday, at the same time that Intel released its Q2 2019 earnings report, Apple announced the deal which is worth $1 billion.

Under the terms of the agreement, roughly 2,200 engineers will move from Intel to Apple, which forms of the majority of Intel's modem business.

Apple will also acquire a range of patents, bringing the tech giant's count up to over 17,000 in wireless technologies, cellular standards, and modems.

Eine smarte Brille mit leichtem Gestell, die kaum auffällt und Informationen direkt ins Auge überträgt: Der Chiphersteller präsentiert erstmals sein Projekt "Vaunt", das bald für Entwickler zugänglich sein soll.

Intel arbeitet an einer smarten Datenbrille, die kaum von einem herkömmlichen Brillengestell zu unterscheiden ist. Sie soll lediglich 50 Gramm wiegen und den Benutzer nicht ablenken, wie The Verge berichtet. Die Technik samt Akku befindet sich in den Ohrbügeln. Anders als bei Googles viel beachtetem (und klobigem) Modell "Glass" projiziert die "Vaunt" genannte Datenbrille Bildinformationen nicht auf das Brillenglas, sondern direkt auf die Netzhaut. Damit ist für andere Personen auch nicht erkennbar, ob der Brillenträger gerade Informationen zu sehen bekommt.
