Im Netz gibt es sie wie Sand am Meer: Gefälschte und manipulierte Bilder, die mit Bildbearbeitungsprogrammen verändert wurden. Meist sollen sie nur für Lacher sorgen – manchmal fallen auch berühmte Persönlichkeiten auf diese „Shoops“ (benannt nach der beliebten Software „Photoshop“) herein, zur allgemeinen Belustigung. Überhaupt nicht lustig sind solche Fälle, in denen Fotomontage verwendet wird, um mit politischen Absichten einen falschen Eindruck zu wecken. So teilte die deutsche Politikerin Erika Steinbach ein Bild, das die „Refugees Welcome“-Bewegung verunglimpfte. Nach den Events in Charlottesville in den USA teilte ein Journalist ein Bild, das einen der rechtsnationalen Protestler gemeinsam mit US-Präsident Trump zeigt – ebenfalls eine Fälschung. In beiden Fällen wurden die Bilder tausendfach geteilt; definitiv keine kleine Sache, findet Georges Knell von BEE Secure. „Durch solche ,Fakes‘ lässt sich besonders leicht ein falsches Bild über bestimmte Personen oder bestimmte Gruppen von Personen verbreiten, besonders, wenn diese in einem negativen Kontext dargestellt werden. Oft ist es auch so, dass solche ,Fakes‘ öfter verbreitet werden, wenn sie in das Weltbild der bestimmten Person passen oder ihre Meinung über eine bestimmte Person respektiv über eine bestimmte Gruppe von Personen bestätigen. In solchen Fällen wird besonders schnell und ohne weiteres Nachfragen geteilt; das ist aber keineswegs nur ein Kavaliersdelikt, denn in den meisten Fällen verteilt sich der Inhalt damit wie ein Lauffeuer, während sich für eine eventuelle Richtigstellung meistens niemand mehr interessiert – so entsteht allzu schnell eine emotional aufgeladene Diskussion, die sich in einem Sturm der Entrüstung entlädt.
Durch Liken und Teilen in sozialen Netzwerken entsteht dabei eine Art Schneeballeffekt: Immer mehr Menschen bekommen Wind von der Kritik und hinterlassen ebenfalls Kommentare. Rationale Argumente haben dann oft keinen Platz in der Diskussion mehr. Am 22. Oktober fand im Alvisse Hotel in Dommeldange die erste „Cryptoparty for Kids“ im Rahmen der Hack.lu statt.An die zwanzig Kinder im Alter von 7 bis 12 hatten sich zu diesem BEE SECURE Event eingefunden und erhielten umfassende Erklärungen zu den gegenwärtigen Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologien und wie sie sich mit existierenden Sicherheits-Methoden gegen Gefahren im Internet schützen können. Desweiteren wurden sie spielerisch in die Kunst der Verschlüsselung eingeführt.

EUN Academy Join us on this exciting course covering the hugely important topic of developing digital skills in our classrooms. Digital skills are already an essential requirement for young people to succeed in an increasingly digitized society. Not only are these skills demanded for an increasing number of jobs, they also are a requirement and a right of citizens, if they are to be functional in today’s society. Schools and teachers therefore need support to work with their students to develop a wide range of digital skills that ensure young people leaving school have the skills required by the labour market and by an increasingly digitized society.
The course therefore aims to guide teachers in how to develop a range of digital skills and to introduce them to the tools and resources that are available to them. At the end of the course, teachers should be able to design lessons that focus on a range of digital skills, make use of innovative tools to assist their own and the students’ work in this area.

We will train you in using the online labs and the Go-Lab Portal, help you create inquiry learning scenarios for your classes and implement them in Inquiry Learning Spaces. Welcome to a country where teaching is a highly prized profession. Finland’s teachers have kept the nation near the top of the influential Pisa performance rankings since they were first published in 2001, leading to an influx of educational tourists as other teachers have endeavoured to learn from the Finnish experience.
The high-level training is the basis for giving young teachers a great deal of autonomy to choose what methods they use in the classroom – in contrast to England, Krokfors says, where she feels teaching is “somewhere between administration and giving tests to students”. In Finland, teachers are largely free from external requirements such as inspection, standardised testing and government control; school inspections were scrapped in the 1990s.
“Teachers need to have this high-quality education so they really do know how to use the freedom they are given, and learn to solve problems in a research-based way,” Krokfors says. “The most important thing we teach them is to take pedagogical decisions and judgments for themselves.”

The current political momentum around skills is certainly welcomed by those whom, as European Schoolnet, strongly believe in the importance of skills and education to thrive in society.
European Schoolnet is a Brussels-based network of 30 European Ministries of Education. We aim to bring innovation in teaching and learning. We therefore welcome the launch of the New Skills Agenda by the European Commission and support the priorities that are set within the agenda, in particular the emphasis on the need to develop digital skills.
From digital skills to the safe and responsible use of online technology, through the wide variety of ICT in education projects we are involved in, it is clear to us how much digital skills are needed for citizens to actively participate in today's digital society, and how central they are in shaping the personal and professional future of a connected generation. Our leading role in a number of European initiatives in the area of STEM and of Key Competences for lifelong learning has further strengthened our belief that investing in the development and recognition of a wide variety of skills is beneficial to learners’ personal development, active citizenship, social inclusion, and employment.
European Schoolnet looks forward to supporting the New Skills Agenda for Europe in the four major areas outlined below. We believe that our network of stakeholders (Ministries of Education, schools, teachers, researchers, and industry partners) together with our targeted actions, tools, platforms, and services are able to contribute to bring about change. - Foster the development and assessment of key competences

14/07/2015 European Schoolnet and Cisco release the first ever report exploring the context, duties, challenges and training needs of ICT Administrators in schools. This report is intended to raise awareness of the challenges and needs of this community of school IT Administrators, and to initiate a dialogue amongst public and private sector organizations to find solutions.
Across Europe, and for many years now, governments, significant investments in ICT connectivity, equipment and services in order to make digital age teaching and learning a reality for young people, and to equip them with the competences needed to thrive in the 21st century. The people in schools who are responsible for maintaining and upgrading the technological infrastructure occupy an increasingly vital role in ensuring that this investment pays dividends, and deserve support to fulfill this mission. An IT Administrator – in some countries known as the network manager, systems coordinator or IT manager – is the person in the school who oversees the technical development and implementation of IT, for example administering the network, managing devices in the school, addressing security issues and providing technical support to teachers. It is distinct from the ICT coordinator or e-learning manager who has a more pedagogical role. That is why European Schoolnet has worked in partnership with Cisco- with its experience in the Cisco Networking Academy Program - to explore the context, duties, challenges and training needs of IT Administrators in schools.

HOW CAN POLICY-MAKERS SUPPORT TEACHERS IN DEVELOPING THEIR TECHNOLOGY- ENHANCED TEACHING COMPETENCE? Two-thirds of teachers in the European Union learn about ICT in their own time, and almost all are positive about the impact of ICT on students, according to the Survey in schools: ICT and education (2013).
However, despite this readiness, many teachers in Europe still have a lack of competence in using ICT in their teaching and use it only to a small extent in their classrooms.
