The Top 20 countries for software piracy

The Top 20 countries for software piracy | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it
The pervasiveness of online privacy is an acknowledged reality of today’s Internet.

Software licensing, security and usage tracking provider V.i. Labs has analyzed customer data to identify where in the world most software piracy and license misuse originates from. While illegally downloaded movies and music may be the focus of government and financial efforts against piracy, unlicensed software piracy and license misuse run rampant as well, and its prevalence shifts from country to country.

According to the V.i Labs report, which analyzed customer data from its CodeArmor Intelligence software usage-tracking platform, the countries with the highest number of machines running unlicensed software this year were China, Russia and the United States, respectively.

The Poisoning of Our Minds

The Poisoning of Our Minds | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it
I watch the killing that’s taking place around the world and ask myself why?

How can someone be so intolerant that they can kill another person over their beliefs? How can someone be so angry that they’re willing to take the life of an innocent child to advance a cause? How can someone be so confused that they refuse to honor and value a life?

There’s no simple answer to the horrific crisis that we face, but I’m convinced that a contributing factor is the poisoning of our minds.

We are bombarded with hatred, intolerance, and violence every day. The entertainment industry incorporates hate, intolerance, and violence into movies, music, comedy routines, and video games in order to increase sales.

The news media hypes violence to boost television ratings. Politicians appeal to our dark side to win votes. These acts are desensitizing our personal values, polluting our minds, and corroding our culture.

While violent and hateful stimulation do not affect everyone, repetitive, negative stimulation may confuse an already deranged mind and cause that mind to snap — just as steel may break if bombarded continually at its weakest spot.

Hands-on: Child-friendly YouTube Kids app launches on Android and iOS | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it
YouTube is a fantastic way to keep your kids entertained with a tablet or smartphone, but it’s also a little concerning. You just never know if your child will end up using the suggested videos feature to jump from Sesame Street’s Elmo to a drunk Elmo parody, or view inappropriate advertising.

Google is aiming to solve that problem with a new app called YouTube Kids available on Monday for Android and iOS. The Kurio and nabi kids’ tablets will also receive the app in the coming weeks.

Early reports about the app surfaced late last week, but details were a little thin. Now that the app is available we can say that at first glance this app should appeal to parents and kids alike.

Protecting your child's digital identity | Digital CitizenShip | eSkills | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it
Child identity theft is considered to be one of the fastest-growing crimes. Kids’ identities are stolen over 50 times more than those of adults! We’re often so focused protecting our kids from so many threats in the real world; we forget that in cyberspace bad guys are stealing children’s identities to open credit cards, apply for loans, rent homes and even receive health care. Bad guys make money by selling and reselling the same child’s identity over and over. And they get away with it because parents don’t think about monitoring their son or daughter’s identity.

Why is this important? Children could potentially lose out on future jobs, internships and loans that require a clean background check or credit report—all because they were victims of identity theft as kids. That’s a future I’m trying to help my daughters avoid. Growing up in the real world is difficult enough that I don’t want their digital lives to hold them back.

Steven Stich's curator insight, December 9, 2014 8:40 PM

Did you know that children's identity is stolen over 50 times more than adults? I had no idea until reading this article. People who steal children's identity use their information to open credit cards, apply for loans, and this can affect kids ability to gain jobs in the future as a result. One day these children will be the future of America so it is vital that actions are taken by parents to ensure that their children are being safe online, and that no one is taking advantage of them.

Absolute must read for parents

Ness Crouch's curator insight, March 13, 2016 3:22 AM
