European Conference: Towards a European Quality label for ICT industry training and certifications

European Conference: Towards a European Quality label for ICT industry training and certifications | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

In this context industry-based training and certification is part of the solution to reduce skills shortages and mismatches and thereby unemployment in general. However, we are currently faced with some strong inhibitors and constraints to make this happen. Starting a career as ICT practitioner or advancing a career towards those areas of highest demand is constrained by the fact that the ICT certification world remains un-transparent with thousands of different certificates, ranging from technical ones (almost every ICT provider offers some), those offered by foundations in information management to high end certificates. Moreover they seem to live in a parallel universe to that of vocational and higher education.

Cybercrime: EU Citizens Worry About Net Security | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it
Almost three quarters of people in the EU live in fear of a cyberattack. The new European Cybercrime Centre is intended to aid prosecution and restore confidence.

===> Every day, an estimated 1 million people worldwide are victims of cybercrime. <===

The resulting financial loss suffered every year throughout the world totals approximately $388 billion. But now the European Commission has said enough is enough. A key part of its defense strategy is the European Cybercrime Centre (EC3), which is currently being set up at Europol's headquarters in The Hague and is set to open in a few weeks' time.

European Parliament endorses first ever Digital Freedom Strategy

European Parliament endorses first ever Digital Freedom Strategy | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it
Marietje SCHAAKE:
A large majority of the European Parliament today endorsed the first ever Digital Freedom Strategy in the EU’s foreign policy. I’m very happy with the wide support my report received....

“The Parliament unequivocally acknowledges that digital freedoms, like uncensored access to the internet, are fundamental rights which deserve equal protection as traditional human rights. I have set out a number of concrete points of action to be incorporated in the EU’s trade and development policies. New technologies bring huge opportunities, but people can only really enjoy them if we also tackle the threats emerging from the rise of ICTs, for example by authoritarian regimes.”

Cyber attacks a threat to internet efficiency | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

On 4 November, Neelie Kroes Commissioner responsible for the Digital Agenda stressed the threat of cyber-security hacking for the efficiency of Internet Services. “Incidents (also linked to human mistakes) and attacks are clearly on the rise…the number of web based attacks went up 36% in the year 2011.”

During his speech in the Information Security Forum Conference in Chicago, Kroes urged for bringing cyber security in the top of the political agenda. Acknowledging that most of the cyber networks and infrastructures are privately owned, the Commissioner recognised the limited role of the public authorities.

EU will offer every young person employment or training within four months of leaving school

EU will offer every young person employment or training within four months of leaving school | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

The European Commission has launched their latest Youth Employment Package requesting a guarantee from all Member States that every young person receives a quality offer of employment or training within four months of leaving school, or of being unemployed. The proposal will make full use of EU funding and in particular the European Social Fund (ESF), which was set up to reduce the differences in prosperity and living standards across EU Member States and regions.

The new Youth Employment Package is part of the initiative Rethinking Education - designed to reduce the youth unemployment rate. Research has shown that the figure is close to 23 % across the European Union, yet more than 2 million vacancies remain unfilled.
