Jailbreakcon - World's Biggest Jailbreak Community Event Live Streaming

Jailbreakcon is the biggest ever jailbreak community convention that aims to unite the entire community of jailbreak developers along with various developers that have contributed and presented their remarkable skill in developing stunning tweaks and apps for jailbroken iOS devices which include iPhone, iPad and iPods. Jailbreakcon is simply the same event that happened an year ago with a different name - MyGreatFest that was very successful. The event is happening at South San Francisco Conference Center in California today beginning in few hours. Note The Organizers: We have yet to witness first hand the awesome goings on at JailbreakCon. However, the plain is to feature the best hackers, developers and themers that the community has to offer. All in one place to educate, inform and share their wisdom and experience. We are currently exploring numerous exciting avenues to make JailbreakCon the best event it can be. This involves talking with the big names in the community, but also with up and coming developers.

Installing applications in Cydia is easy but what if you don't get enough time to visit Cydia store often to check for any updates on the tweaks and themes installed on your device ? What if your busy schedule keeps you off the Cydia Store and when you visit it you find list of apps and tweaks with updates ? Shouldnt there be a tweak that gives you notifications just like you receive a notification when there is an update for your AppStore applications ?
The solution for the above situation is here. A new Cydia tweak Aptdate notifies you with banner notifications for any cydia updates. You can configure how often you want the app to check for updates in Cydia. Aptdate basically check for updates in the Cydia repos and alerts you with a notification banner so you can visit Cydia and install the update. This tweak is simply amazing. The only configurable settings are to enable or disable notifications.

Prominent jailbreak tweaks developer, chpwn has tweeted that he has discovered a safety switch in Jailbroken devices. According to Grant Paul aka chpwn, mobile substrate addon has a Palm OS inspired safety switch that disables extensions to run while rebooting. This will basically help you in identifying any problems in your device start up. This feature was incorporated by Cydia developer Jay Freeman Saurik. If you want to experience the safety switch, all you have to do is press and hold the volume up button while your device is rebooting. This will disable all the Cydia tweaks and make your phone slightly faster but there's a catch. Enabling it will not start any Cydia tweak. In order to enable the tweaks, you'll have to reboot your device.

As mentioned earlier, this method was embedded for troubleshooting purpose only. Give it a try :)
