The unsexy part of big data to most news folks is where the data actually gets stored. Good article at Wired on increasing use of solid state drives (SSD) to replace traditional disk drives. SSD's are currently more expensive and have some other limitations but they offer speed and versatility over traditional disk drives and as a result are starting to get adopted into the big name data centers.
