luiy's curator insight, September 2, 2014 5:13 PM

The above examples describe a wide range of geographical and geotemporal storytelling models, often based around quite simple data files containing information about individual events. Many of the tools make a strong use of image files as pat of the display. it may be interesting to complete a more detailed review that describes the exact data models used by each of the techniques, with a view to identifying a generic data model that could be used by each of the different models, or transformed into the distinct data representations supported by each of the separate tools.

Writing doesn´t have to be a tedious process and we can enhance it with some tools.

It might develop some creativity too!

Alfredo Corell's curator insight, March 23, 2014 12:49 PM

Using comic strips is one powerful way to get students excited and motivated about the writing act. Students love to interact with visuals and tools such as the ones listed below will empower them to do just that. Using these comic strip generators , students will get  to engage in conversations using cartoonic characters and build stories and share their works with each other.

Robin Good's insight:Introducing content curation to someone who doesn't know anything about it is not always an easy task. There are so many different articles, opinions, definitions and recommendations about content curation that it is quite difficult for someone just getting familiar with the topic, to easily find out where to start and what to trust. To help out anyone needing to support the explanation of content curation to others, here are five comprehensive resource collections I have put together over the course of the last year. 1) Content Curation - Definitions a collection of the best and most useful definitions of what content curation is http://bundlr.com/b/content-curation-definition 2) Content Curation - What is it? Social media is one of the most effective ways for you and your business to get more traffic and generate new leads. But what tools are the social media gurus actually using to manage these multiple accounts?

If you use Tweetdeck's mobile app... I believe they are shutting it down in early May. As to your question about Hootsuite, the analytics reports are extremely helpful in determining what content your fans/followers are reading and engaging with. The auto-schedule feature is great for determining best time of day to post on a daily basis and the ability to manage Facebook/Twitter/LinkedIn profile + company pages/Google+ profile and pages and the additional apps they have that allows you to manage tumblr, youtube, instagram and even MailChimp are excellent!

How to Turn Infographics Into Effective Teaching Tools

How to Turn Infographics Into Effective Teaching Tools | Didactics and Technology in Education | Scoop.it

Infographics have already established themselves as engaging news and marketing tools, but they are also entering the education space in new and exciting ways.

A good graphic can fit these standards by reinforcing to students that their conclusions should be grounded in evidence and by challenging their ability to organize a hierarchy of systems, a.k.a. the ability to tell what pieces of information are the most important.

Via Lauren Moss
Mack James's curator insight, September 28, 2013 6:15 AM

Infographics is a very interesting way of presenting information. Students can really learn to dig deep into specific information and facts and create infographics to show what they have learned. GREAT!!!!!

Visual Design: Understanding Color Theory and the Color Wheel

Visual Design: Understanding Color Theory and the Color Wheel | Didactics and Technology in Education | Scoop.it

Sometimes the toughest step in building a new website or redesign can be the conceptual ones. Selecting a color palette is one of them that can be tough if you don’t have the right tools. So where do you start?

It all comes down to basic color theory and the color wheel. That same tool that teachers used in school really is the basis for how designers plan and use color in almost every project from the simplest web page to expansive brands with multiple sites and campaigns...

Summaries and statistics drawn from within the structure of the database are not enough. If there is to be any real grappling with the database as an culturally-embedded construct, then it has to be done in a manner that reveals the data, the model and the population simultaneously.

I’ve become quite the fan of Gephi, lately, and received a good-natured challenge by one of my colleagues, which went something like, “Why is a everything a network with you, now?”  Obviously, in the case of social network-like phenomena, such as mapping collaboration in the Digital Humanities with the DH@Stanford graph–network theory and network language (whether visual or theoretical) make sense.  Network analytical tools like Gephi are also only a short step away from spatial analytical tools, like ArcGIS, many of which are used to ask questions about geographic networks and not about the kind of continuous data found in topography.

The Best 8 Tools to Create Posters for your Classroom ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | Didactics and Technology in Education | Scoop.it

"Posters are great educational tools to use with your students. Their importance stems from the fact that they present information, facts, and data not only in a visually attractive way but also using a multi-modal system that combines signs, images, charts..........and texts. They are probably like infographics except that they are smaller and neater.
