I am a Teacher, Not a Hero

I am a Teacher, Not a Hero | E-Learning-Inclusivo (Mashup) | Scoop.it
Yes, I am a teacher. No, I am not a hero. I am not a martyr. Nor am I a saint, knight in shining armor or wizard. I am a teacher. I was two or three failing grades away from joining the family farm. I eat M&Ms, wear dirty socks on days that I forget to do my laundry, and eat salads that my fiancée makes me for lunch.

I appreciate the massive amount of support that has been poured over my profession ever since the cursed Common Core was implemented. But we teachers can handle the problems and negativity. We are not poor, helpless punching bags smacked around by big government and lawmakers.

Developing moral character is something we need to address in schools - and it becomes more pertinent through the lens of social media interactions.

The Shift of the Role of the Teacher

The Shift of the Role of the Teacher | E-Learning-Inclusivo (Mashup) | Scoop.it

We know today’s students will have to create their jobs, not look for jobs. They will compete with others around the globe. They will have jobs replaced by outsourcing and technology if their skills are easily replicated or duplicated.  To succeed, students will need creativity, communication, critical thinking, collaboration, and entrepreneurship.

They will need to be able to adapt to change, be resilient and able to work effectively in a variety of environments.

Our heart needs education too

Nancy Jones's curator insight, January 12, 2014 12:01 PM

I particularly like the part that concerns  to train for positive assertion versus constant compliance. The compliance to please teachers versus the ownership of learning all  to please parents often provides a conflict for me.

Ness Crouch's curator insight, January 14, 2014 9:30 PM

This is an important article. Some teachers find themselves in situations where they are teaching ethical behaviour to children. This is worth a read.
