Redipuglia, Italy: Memorial is the resting place of 100,000 WWI dead

Redipuglia, Italy: Memorial is the resting place of 100,000 WWI dead | Human Interest | Scoop.it

A monumental display of history outside of Redipuglia, Italy, is more than just a climb up Monte Sei Busi; it’s a bitter reminder of the Great War. The Military Sacrarium Redipuglia is about an hour’s drive from Aviano Air Base. Its grand steps symbolize the hard-fought battles soldiers endured during World War I to maintain control of the mountain’s summit. Inscribed on plaques are the names of places considered to be the worst battles fought. [...]

Today's History Lesson...WWI

War is an ugly beast. It shows no mercy regardless of age, race, creed, religion, gender or any other factor for that matter. The aftermath of war is tumultuous destruction leaving massive graves of blood and bone in its wake where strength and courage were put to the ultimate test. While on this day began what was hoped to be "the war to end all wars," unfortunately the war to accomplish such a task would be the one marking the end the world.

This Day in History: July 28, 1914

10 Anti-German Propaganda Posters from World War One

10 Anti-German Propaganda Posters from World War One | Human Interest | Scoop.it
It’s now a cliché of World War One history that the war was pointless and fought only for the vanity of an elite minority. Yet at the time both sides conducted propaganda campaigns to keep public support behind the war.
Kent College History's curator insight, February 20, 2015 5:04 AM

'In the propaganda of Britain, France and the USA, Germans were presented, often literally, as monsters, while atrocities both real and imagined were liberally exploited.'

Wake up, America! - World War I propaganda posters

Wake up, America! - World War I propaganda posters | Human Interest | Scoop.it

Via Luke Walker
Luke Walker's curator insight, March 28, 2013 7:03 AM

The Wilson administration had to "sell" the war to America. Think back to the debate that existed between those motivated by heritage/sympathy & economic reasons against pacifists, socialists, and immigrants.

How do you change people's minds? PROPAGANDA!

Appeal to the senses of the masses and see what you can impact!

Things to Ponder:

1) Who is the target audience of these posters?

2) What positive messages do they describe?

3) What negative messages do they describe?

4) Do they appeal to women and men in the same ways?

5) Are there any common themes throughout?
