Think back to days (possibly dating back to prehistoric man) when one used a stick to poke a beehive for the honey; then, the honey was scraped off the stick to be eaten later. Of course, the honey could be licked right off the stick possibly marking the beginning for what we know today as the lollipop.

Awakenings: Pray-leen, Praw-line or Prah-lean

Awakenings: Pray-leen, Praw-line or Prah-lean | Human Interest | Scoop.it
The word for today is "praline". No other spelling other than p-r-a-l-i-n-e. How you pronounce it is an entirely different and somewhat debatable subject matter. Pray-leen, praw-line or prah-lean? In the good ol' USA, the most acceptable pronunciation is "pray-leen". You know...just like something you do in church. Along the East Coast of Georgia, it's pronounced "praw-line" if you please. In Louisiana and along the Gulf Coast, the tendency leans more toward the southern “prah-leen” because of the French cultural influence in the area. The candy's namesake after all is du Plessis-Praslin, a 17th century French nobleman. No matter how you pronounce it, praline candy makes for a mighty fine treat.

Awakenings: Nutty, Nutty, Peanuttier Chocolate!

Awakenings: Nutty, Nutty, Peanuttier Chocolate! | Human Interest | Scoop.it
Yep! Another food holiday...not just any food but chocolate...not just any chocolate nor chocolate alone but chocolate swirling over, under, around and through salty peanuts! WOW! A crunchy bunch of peanuts held together by chocolate! With all the chocolate and nutty days already celebrated, why not one more! Right? Dieting went to pot during Thanksgiving and Christmas, now the push for chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate is making weight watching almost an impossibility.

Awakenings: Penuche! | Human Interest | Scoop.it
If the title of this posting had been 'Cake', there would be no question as to what it is about. There are thousands of different types of cakes in the world today, each culture with its own specialties, many of which never reach America's shores. For the cake, we need icing and one might want to try something different perhaps topping it off with penuche frosting. That's one possibility for penuche. Let's add a little extra pizazz to the title: Penuche Fudge. Now, let's get on with the celebration!

Awakenings: Love 'em or hate 'em!

Awakenings: Love 'em or hate 'em! | Human Interest | Scoop.it
Gummy worms fall in one of two categories...love 'em or hate 'em! Kids love 'em for sure, so does that mean the adults hate 'em? For some, yes; for others, definitely no! They are sweet, they are chewy, but they notoriously stick to your teeth! A bigger question might be "What makes sugar, gelatin and flavorful 'worms' so irresistible, especially for kids?" The truth is...

Gummy candy superstar Trolli was the first to develop the gummy worm, which happened in the early 1980s. Trolli’s idea was built on traditional American marketing values: making something gross enough looking to shock parents and simultaneously attract children. [Source: Huffington Post]

Some things are meant to go together - bacon & eggs, apple pie & ice cream, strawberries & cream, peanut butter & jelly, peas & carrots, burger & fries, pizza & beer, cookies & milk, coffee & doughnuts, the synergy goes on and on. Um-m-m-m? Looks like chocolate was left off the list...not quite!

Chocolate Caramel Day

Skuuppilehdet's insight:
The union of chocolate and caramel is arguably one of the greatest flavor combinations ever conceived by man. These two ingredients appear in countless candy bars, ice cream flavors, confections, and desserts. Of course, to top it off even more, just add nuts! O-o-o-o-oH! What a mouth watering delight - the salty with the sweet!
