The government lying again - I would say so. Either lying or being so disingenuous as to effectively be lying.
Either way, the Department for International Trade tweeted about the Great British Bake Off, suggesting that the price of soy sauce was likely to fall in the wake of the UK-Japan trade deal.
Which would be true - apart from the fact that the leading UK brand is actually made in China, and the leading Japanese brand, Kikkoman, is made in the Netherlands.
The only get-out for the Department for International Trade? Hanlon's razor. The error is likeliest to be the result of incompetence rather than malice.
