The latest in the Guardian's series on the impact on Brexit looks at its impact on agriculture, with farmers worried about the impact of ongoing trade deals and the future of agricultural support policy as the Common Agricultural Policy is replaced. 

 

The gist of the story is - surprise, surprise - that the post-Brexit world is full if uncertainty, with many farmers fearing that trade deals are going to make them worse off and that the environmental land management payments replacing CAP are going to see a substantial decline in state support for farming. Who knew?

The President of the National Farmers' Union, Minette Batters looks at the way in which the sector has been affected by Brexit, and how it has been 'used' in ongoing trade deals. Let's just say she's not overly impressed - however, put this into context: less than 2% of the workforce are employed in the sector.
