EU membership was vital in attracting the carmaker, says the Guardian writer David Conn
Graham Watson's insight:
More on the Nissan-Sunderland debacle - with David Conn, not normally a business writer, highlighting the fact that the whole premise which drew Nissan, and other carmakers to the UK, was access to European markets and to fail to acknowledge this is disingenuous.
He subsequently argues that the Remain campaign should reflect upon the fact that they didn't seek to educate the public about this during the Referendum campaign. It might have made places like Sunderland, which voted 'Leave', think again.
As it is, they seemed happy enough to believe the falsehoods peddled by people from Westminster, with negligible experience of manufacturing, but more than happy to play the immigration card to hoodwink voters.
The start of the final paragraph sums it up for me: "To argue that the British public did not understand EU membership when fatefully asked to pronounce on it in a referendum is not to dismiss people as stupid." Perhaps not for its author...

The economy would shrink 3.9% annually, research commissioned by the People's Vote claims.
Graham Watson's insight:
More good news regarding Brexit - however, be careful, the survey is conducted by the NIESR but on behalf of the People's Vote.
However, the conclusion, that the UK is going to be £100bn worse off per year as a result of Brexit isn't encouraging. The problem for me, is that the magnitude of the costs are such that it is easy for the Leavers to dismiss. Additionally, they might also argue that the die is already cast.
