SpaceX is sending signals back to the Trump administration and NASA in kind. Elon Musk, the founder of SpaceX, said in an interview last week that he believes his company’s spacecraft, could return humans to the moon’s surface sooner than everyone might expect. Despite the acknowledgement of how crazy this initiative would be, he was clear that within two years the mission could be done successfully.

Will this sudden move light a fire under the bureaucracy, or did we just lose four decades of institutional knowledge jeopardizing our safe return to the lunar surface? While NASA's moon missions were going pretty strong during the Apollo era, why don't we have a moon base yet?! In this video, we answer this often asked question by exploring the LESA (Lunar Exploration System for Apollo) moon base concepts of NASA back in the 60s and early 70s. Unfortunately, all NASA moon landing and moon colony plans back then were cancelled not least because of the Vietnam war.

Expedition 59 Crew Lands Safely in Kazakhstan

Expedition 59 Commander Oleg Kononenko of Roscosmos and Flight Engineers Anne McClain of NASA and David Saint-Jacques of the Canadian Space Agency landed safely near the town of Dzezkazgan Kazakhstan June 24th after bidding farewell to their colleagues on the complex and undocking their Soyuz MS-11 spacecraft  from the Poisk Module on the International Space Station.

Be Brave Girl! I agree with most of your conclusions. I have great faith in SPACEX, BLUE ORIGIN, DREAMCHASER, VIRGIN GALACTIC ...... in other words commercial spaceflight in general. And I believe that, as a nation, we are headed for a great golden age of spaceflight that most people have not yet even imagined.
