An ice core from the Antarctic has given an NSF-funded research team a glimpse into the very distant past. The continuous core sample provides details on how the Earth's climate and atmosphere changed long ago, and gives clues about variations in ice levels. The oldest ice from the bottom of the core may be up to 100,000 years old.
