Nature Has A Formula That Tells Us When It's Time To Die : NPR

Nature Has A Formula That Tells Us When It's Time To Die : NPR | Science News | Scoop.it
What if I told you that there's a mathematical formula buried deep in living things that tells us — all of us, dandelions, gorillas, sea grasses, elm trees, buttercups — when it's time to die. Scientists think there is such rule.

Artificial Nature

Artificial Nature | Science News | Scoop.it
Shown here is a fluid dynamic environment containing bio-generative algorithms representing plant and insect-like life-forms. The image was produced as part of the Artificial Nature project at the AlloSphere, one of the largest immersive scientific instruments in the world. The National Science Foundation (NSF)-supported AlloSphere is located at the California NanoSystems Institute (CNSI) building at the University of California, Santa Barbara. The AlloSphere takes scientific data that is too small to see and hear and visually and sonically magnifies it to a human scale so researchers can better analyze the data and find new patterns.

‘Superorganisations’ – Learning from Nature’s Networks

‘Superorganisations’ – Learning from Nature’s Networks | Science News | Scoop.it

Fritjof Capra, in his book ‘The Hidden Connections’ applies aspects of complexity theory, particularly the analysis of networks, to global capitalism and the state of the world; and eloquently argues the case that social systems such as organisations and networks are not just like living systems – they are living systems. The concept and theory of living systems (technically known as autopoiesis) was introduced in 1972 by Chilean biologists Humberto Maturana and Francisco Varela.

Children Should Regain the Right to Roam | Science News | Scoop.it

If children haven’t had contact with nature, they never develop a relationship with natural environment and they are unable to use it to cope with stress,” Dr Bird said. As a consequence, the current generation of children may be much less stress resistant and at greater risk of depression and anxiety.
