Could Artificial Intelligence Create an Unemployment Crisis?

Could Artificial Intelligence Create an Unemployment Crisis? | Web 3.0 | Scoop.it
Advances in artificial intelligence and robotics will have significant implications for evolving economic systems.
Pierre Tran's insight:

Machine Learning + Deep NLP: The Quest for Understanding at Cognition

Machine Learning + Deep NLP: The Quest for Understanding at Cognition | Web 3.0 | Scoop.it

As the Internet of Things expands its reach, more and more of the everyday objects that we surround ourselves with are becoming “smart.” It’s already happening with our phones, our microwaves, our refrigerators, our lighting systems — entire houses are gaining an element of artificial intelligence, allowing us to communicate with objects via language. In most cases, those communications are as basic as possible, i.e. “Dim lights” or “Call Susan.” But with technologists and linguists putting their mental muscle to the test, we will soon find ourselves immersed in an array of objects, tools, and machine-based services that we will be able to converse with using natural language.

Sexbots, Ethics, and Transhumans

Sexbots, Ethics, and Transhumans | Web 3.0 | Scoop.it

Sexbots, or sex robots can come in two forms. Fully digital incarnations with AI, viewed through Augmented Reality visors, or as physical robots — advanced enough to pass off as human surrogates. The porn industry has always been at the fore-front of video and interactive innovation, experimenting with means of immersing the audience into the “action”. Gonzo Porn [3] is one such technique that started off as a passive linear viewing experience, then progressed to multi-angle DVD interactivity and now to Virtual Reality first person point-of-view interactivity.

New Form Of Computation Mimics The Human Brain

New Form Of Computation Mimics The Human Brain | Web 3.0 | Scoop.it

The next frontier for the robotics industry has always been to build machines that think like humans. Scientists have pursued that elusive goal for decades, and some now believe that they are now extremely close to achieving the goal.

DARPA's Physical Intelligence program represents a potential major advance in artificial intelligence research, as the “physical intelligence” device would not require computer programming or the use of human controllers to provide directions, as with traditional robots. Instead, the device operates via nano-scale interconnected wires that send signals through synthetic synapses, just like the human brain. Such a system is capable of remembering information, meaning that robots might be able to act like humans in the foreseeable future.

Representing the Digital Enterprise Research Institute, Liam Ó Móráin , recently discussed the work of the DERI on the Semantic Web and the move from Web 2.0 to Web 3.0.

Liam explains how the evolution of Web 2.0 to Web 3.0 (also known as Semantic Web) is taking the web experience to the user in a new and more powerful way. Web 3.0 will quickly and easily combine information from very diverse sources and serve the information to the user, based on intelligent browsing.

Uncontrolled Technological Advancements Breed Danger: Weapons of Extinction

Uncontrolled Technological Advancements Breed Danger: Weapons of Extinction | Web 3.0 | Scoop.it

The 'Singularity' is the most dangerous technical term largely unknown to common man. In an article by author James John Bell, titled "Explore the "Singularity," twelve-time doctorate and inventor Ray Kurzweil is quoted to have defined the singularity as a moment in time filled with "technological change so rapid and profound it could create a rupture in the very fabric of human history.” If the implications of the future ‘singularity’ were clear with each new scientific advancement, would people gratefully put their hands out for every new technological wonder?
